Southbank Centre means many things to many people. Designed and built in the 1960s, this unusual collection of buildings clustered behind, and belonging to, the Royal Festival Hall was in need of a major overhaul. Working with Artistic Director Jude Kelly, we carried out a major transformation project over five years to make more space for arts, for more people, more of the time. An exemplar in 21st-century place-making and an exciting sequence of narrative spaces, Southbank Centre today welcomes millions of visitors every year to experience the broadest range of art and culture anywhere in the world. // Image credit: Richard Battye

The Hayward Gallery is an internationally signifiant venue for contemporary art but the entrance was hard to find and its image unwelcoming. Our project focused on bringing the building back to its original clarity, and more particularly, to letting the light back in. The upper galleries of this world-famous art museum are now a joy to visit in themselves. // Image credit: FCBStudios

Foyers and bars at the Southbank Centre are expected to do much more than provide circulation and refreshment. They are spaces for art, for encounter, for discovery. We transformed the Queen Elizabeth Hall foyer to enhance its use as an important music and performance venue for the Southbank and to improve its connectivity to the River Thames, which had previously been obscured. //Image credit: FCBStudios
